Praise

Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

Nurture Your Child's Gift Book Review

Reviewed on Amazon.com by a member of Gen X

This was my first time on Amazon.Com, and I had to comment on this book. As a product of Generation X, I have heard the echo of my generation..... we are a very self interested group, motivated by what benefits us directly. As I have grown into adult-hood key themes of this generation have held steadfast, while some have fallen away. There has been an awareness of self that has resounded, focusing inward towards preservation of self. Through meditation, self-assessment, empowerment, and striving to nurture the left and right hand sides of the brain, our generation is unlike any other. What we have learned has the opportunity to carry over into parenting techniques to nurture our children in a style that has hardly been looked at or applied. This book on inspired parenting gives you tools for application in nurturing your child. These tools will not be found in the traditional educational system (YET!) and it is an amazingly simple set of concepts to grasp. The chapters are easy reading filled with vignettes and inspiring quotes. Dr Goode begins her book with a chapter on your child's dreams. In today's fast paced society, most children's "dreams" are merely seen as a passing interest. How do we, as parents, learn to distinguish between our children's dreams and a passing fancy? Dr. Goode discusses ways to recognize and nurture your child dreams. She addresses basic child development theories, adding additional insights not found in most parenting books that are out there. Dr. Goode also goes through self-esteem, empowerment, recognizing and managing stress in children. Her alternative themes are holistic in nature offering a way to recognize and manage behavior without being one of the millions of parents who have a child on Prozac before they even reach puberty. As a parent of the 21st century, I hope that Inspired Parenting is a glimpse into a new way of parenting for a better generation of enlightened and aware individuals... what a society we could have.....
