Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

While many people like the ancient patterns of swirls and scrolls, they put them in untraditional places like around a pregnant belly.  Read on...

Book Review: Mother Blessings: Honoring Women Becoming Mothers by Anna Stewart

Review By Beth Osnes

Good intentions fill the air when a woman becomes pregnant, gives birth, or adopts a child. Family and friends surrounding the expanding family yearn to celebrate and give support in some meaningful way. However, we live in a society that generally lacks the form to do so together in a way that truly matches the majesty of the occasion. Boulder’s own Anna Stewart’s Mother Blessings: Honoring Women Becoming Mothers is an invaluable tool for doing just that—creating meaningful ceremonies that honor a woman’s transition into motherhood.   Read on...

By Brenda Nixon

These childrearing years are packed with chaos, loud voices, sassy talk, and oodles of activity! It’s hard to corral a kid long enough to teach him anything, especially responsibility. But the earlier you begin, the better.

Did you know responsible children are more pleasant to be around, successful in school, and mature to be productive, responsible adults? Teaching responsibility will take repeated lessons.   Read on...

My Kids are Driving Me Crazy (And What to do About It)

By Mark Brandenburg

My kids are driving me crazy! It’s a refrain that’s being heard around the country.

And when you conduct parent workshops, the same issues that produce that refrain come up over and over for parents. No matter where you go, parents are talking about the same problems with their kids. And the sad truth about these problems is that parents are usually major contributors to them.  Read On...
