Praise

Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

Connecting With Teenagers

By Lloyd J Thomas

When my children were in their mid- to late teens, I looked at them, listened to them, and sometimes reacted to them as if they were some type of illegal aliens dropped into my life from some other planet, and whose primary purpose was to eternally harass my existence and deplete my pocketbook. Sometimes I was frightened by what they seemed to be turning into. Read on...

When Mom and Dad have to work, who will take care of the emotional, social, physical, and educational needs of the children? Daycares provide socialization and activities to keep kids stimulated, but preschools offer a defined curriculum for kindergarten preparation. Shame On You

By Mark Brandenburg

“What are you thinking? Haven’t we talked about this before?”

My seven-year-old son looked down at the food that had just spilled on the kitchen floor.

He stood statue-still, as children often do after an accident. The words and tone I’d used were having their impact. He braced himself to fight the tears, and prepared to clean things up.
