Inspired Parenting Online Magazine Vol. 6 Issue 2 - January 31, 2006 A Message of Heart and Hope, Part OneBy Caron B. Goode Saturday, January 28th, I had the privilege to watch the premier screening of a new film called The Indigo Revolution which was sponsored by CosmiKids and Children of the New Earth Magazine. Thrills and chills ran through me as I watched the story unfold yet another time of children born from 1980’s forward and who exhibit in their early years a connection to the wisdom of the universe, or God. Parents, educators, doctors, philosophers and the children themselves shared their stories of knowing of their previous lives, direct inspiration to paint haunting images, or telepathic communication. Each episode of "Wife Swap" features two moms, from separate/contrasting families, who switch homes for a week. Each mom gets the opportunity to teach another family about her own ways of life, while simultaneously experiencing a household completely different than hers. Each family selected to appear on the show receives $20,000. Interested candidates can e-mail Danielle L. Burrows, or can contact her at 212.404.1473. In either case, be prepared to share one or two characteristics of your family that are unique (perhaps a parenting philosophy, jobs, hobbies, family traditions, etc.). Where Did Your Energy Go?By Lori Radun
The most common complaint of
mothers today is that they are tired. Being a mom is hard work.
I love Dr. Phil. He always says, “Being a stay at home mom is
like having two full time jobs.” Following that logic, moms who
work from home actually have three full-time jobs. It’s
exhausting just thinking about it. While we obviously need to
conserve our energy, it is difficult when we are confronted with
constant energy drainers. This month I am going to address those
things in life that steal energy. What Do They Call You?By Karen Robbins “Gamma! Gampapa!” cries two and a half year old Kotomi, when she throws open the front door to welcome us with squeals of joy. The exclamations are a little different at the door of Tyler and Danielle’s house. Tyler, age 4, yells, “Grandma Robbins! Grandpa Robbins!” It’s obviously important for him to identify which set of grandparents we are. Danielle, his 2 ˝ year old sister, jumps up and down and shouts with glee, “Gandma! Gandpa!” I’m just happy to hear the excitement in their little voices. I don’t care so much what they call us. Read on... You can work from home in a new profession of parent coaching in six months. Parental attention is the most powerful tool a parent has for developing a child into a mature human being. Without attention, children fail to thrive. With no attention, children die. We never outgrow our need for attention from others. It remains a lifetime human need. Read On... Teaching Kids to CareBy Tracy Chait Philanthropy is a big word for a nine year old. It might seem like an even bigger concept, to parents and children alike. Recent national tragedies, however, have provided an acute time of need for many people, as well as the opportunity to introduce children to the importance of giving. Philanthropy, at its heart, is about more than dollars and cents. (It actually derives from the Greek humane.) Children can understand, through simple acts, that donations of time or companionship may mean the most. “The key for inspiring children to think philanthropically is to plug into something personal that the child is passionate about,” advises Lisa Parker, mother of two and President of the Lawrence Welk Family Foundation.
