Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

Filling Your Belly: Setting Up a Food Tree

By Anna Stewart

The day we brought our newborn son home from the hospital, our friends Ned and Margaret brought us dinner. I can remember it precisely - a mushroom lasagna, green salad, a loaf of fresh-baked French bread and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. I was stunned by their incredible generosity. It was one of the most delicious and satisfying meals I have ever had.  Read on...

10 Reasons to Take Good Care of a Mother

By Rick and Jan Hanson

Q: It's funny: during my pregnancy, I took really good care of myself plus got a lot of attention and support from my doctor, husband, and relatives. Even strangers would stop me in the market and remind me to get lots of rest. But now, a year after Allie was born, I feel like I've fallen off of everybody's radar. It's like you're expected to do life - go to the job, do housework, drive around, shop, pay bills, get gas, etc. - just like before, as if the infant you're still super responsible for is not a factor at all. But she's a HUGE factor, of course! I think about her all the time, I'm the person who mainly takes care of her when I'm not at work, I still get up at night and don't sleep that well, and I feel, honestly, more and more run down. And she's just a year old! Where is this going, and why doesn't anybody seem to notice?!

E - I - E - I…Oh! Friendly Social Skills Are the Way to Go

By Dawn Fry

Traditionally, being "smart" has meant having high academic test scores. While this definition may have served us well in the past, for children to succeed in today's world, we need to redefine what "smart" really means. Read On..
