Praise

Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

Many studies have demonstrated that indeed, laughter does reduce the negative consequences of classical, internal stress. Read on...

Simple Living in a Materialistic World

By Mark Brandenburg

I’d like my kids to know someday that the pursuit of possessions has made more people unhappy than happy, and that it actually ends up limiting their freedom of choice in the world. I’d like them to know that possessions can keep them focused on their own self-interest, rather than focusing on how they can benefit others. And I’d like them to know that one of the keys to a happy life is the pursuit of simple pleasures, which, in today’s day and age, is an act of courage.  Read on...

Homeopathy Corner: Sunburn Relief

By Andrea Candee

Q: I try to be careful and protect my children from the sun but sometimes sunburns do happen. What do you suggest as natural remedies for soothing the pain and healing the skin?
A: Parents know to limit the amount of time children spend in the sun, and to cover them with protective lotion. That having been said, even the most careful parents can let their families get overexposed. If sunburn does occur, there are several wonderful natural formulas that can easily be prepared or purchased.
