Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

A good friend of mine, mother to two teenage daughters, was recently treated for depression and exhaustion. Her acupuncturist chided for taking so long to take care of herself, “Tell me again, how long you’ve been a mother," he said, ”and how long you’ve been tired and stressed?" Read on...

Homeopathy Corner: Formula Sensitivity

By Andrea Candee

Q: My 3 month old infant cries when she drinks her formula, and throws it up. What can I do?
A: This is a common response to a sensitivity to the formula baby is drinking. When all she is being given by mouth is formula, it is pretty easy to pinpoint the offending substance. I have seen this so many times and have helped parents bring the situation to a happy resolution with an uncommon approach.

Book Review - The Wabi-Sabi House

Review By Anna Stewart

There’s a mother I know whose house is immaculate. Her three daughters are quiet and docile. She takes pride of the fact she does all the housework herself. Her home, a possible winner in the Martha Stewart competition, is polished, color-coordinated and perfectly manicured. She handed me a cup of tea in a delicate cup. I didn’t dare put it down. I was afraid of leaving a saucer ring or worse yet, spilling tea on the pristine leather couch. Read on...

Art Therapy During Pregnancy

By Anna Stewart

Today’s assignment is to work with the women’s fears around pregnancy and birth using art therapy. Art therapy is not very well known. For many it conjures up bad memories of grade-school art. But art therapy isn’t about creating artists. It’s about using art as a tool to access and illuminate inner feelings.
