Dear Caron,
I am an RN and just started a new job in a mental health facility. The focus is on children and adolescence. We do a daily "group" with them. We may pick the topic the only criteria being "education" of some sort. I wanted to offer some valuable coping skills kids could use. So, I went to the computer and spent over an hour clicking on lists of Internet items looking for help. I was getting very tired and needed to go to bed. When bingo" I found your article on kids, trauma, and coping skills! I just wanted to say a great big thank-you for your helpful article!
Sincerely ,
Charlotte Rogers

Our Children's Wellness Linked to Our Attitudes

By Caron Goode

My daughter had three bouts of strep throat in first grade. In second grade, she was starting on her second round of throat infections when we sat quietly in the doctor's office and held hands. She looked up at me with tears dangling in her long lashes and said, "I'm sorry I'm sick, Mommy. I promise I'll get better." Read on...

Stress Addiction

By Caron Goode

At the International Breath Institute, we've worked with many people suffering from stress-related illnesses. We coined the term "stress addiction" after studying and compiling data and research on stress and its effects. Simply stated, stress addiction is working at an intense or prolonged pace, suffering a traumatic experience, and always being on the edge. It is like being in a state of hyper-arousal all the time.  Read on...

Music Review - Lullabies for Little Visionaries

Review By Anna Stewart

After Raffi becomes a new family member and parents start unplugging the tape player, its time for something new. Thankfully, we no longer have to choose between Disney and Barney to please both parents and children. Colorado artist, Danae Shanti's new CD, Lullabies for Little Visionaries will keep everyone happy.   Read on...

Mother Arts - Mom Groups

By Anna Stewart

Before I had children, I said I wasn't going to be one of those mothers. You know, the type that can't stop talking about poop and spit-up. The type who think the day their baby rolls over for the first time ought to be declared a national holiday. No, not me. I would still be interesting. I would be able to talk about the current headlines, the newest restaurants, and the city council.  Read on...

Inspired Grandparenting - A Different Point of View

By Elaine K. Williams

In March, I went to my eight year old granddaughter's third grade class to tell them about my trip to India and to show them some of my Indian purchases. Shelby introduced me to her class and when she finished the introduction, I asked her in a whisper if she would like to stay up in front of the class and help me. She politely said no, and added, "I would rather sit at my desk." I said that was fine, and began telling the class about India.  Read on...

Imagine Being an Inspiration to Your Child

By Donna Packard

In the last article, we were beginning to explore the mind-body connection. We discovered that there really is no separation between the mind and body; the mind is everywhere in the body!

What we think about affects our sense of well-being. Our bodies believe everything our minds tell them and what our voices say! For instance, if my thoughts or words often repeat a statement such as, "That really eats away at me," this could manifest in the body as an ulcer "eating away" the stomach lining."   Read on...
